FUE Explained
What Is FUE Hair
Transplant?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the most advanced, minimally invasive hair restoration technique available today. Learn everything you need to know — how it works, what to expect, and why it's the gold standard in hair transplantation.
The Science
How FUE Works
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a hair transplant technique in which individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the scalp's donor area — typically the back and sides — using a specialized micro-punch tool with a diameter of 0.7 to 0.9 millimeters.
These individual follicular units (each containing 1–4 hairs) are then transplanted into tiny recipient sites created in the thinning or balding areas. The grafts are placed at precise angles, depths, and densities to replicate the natural growth pattern of your hair.
Because the donor follicles come from the permanent zone — an area genetically resistant to DHT (the hormone that causes hair loss) — the transplanted hair will continue to grow for the rest of your life.

The Complete FUE Journey
Free Consultation & Hair Analysis
Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation with our highly experienced medical team. We analyze your scalp, donor density, hair loss pattern, and medical history to create a fully personalized treatment plan.
Hairline Design
Our highly experienced medical team artistically designs your new hairline to complement your facial structure, age, and aesthetic goals. You approve the design before any procedure begins.
Donor Area Preparation
The donor area (typically the back and sides of the scalp) is trimmed and numbed with local anesthesia. You remain awake and comfortable throughout.
Follicle Extraction
Using a precision micro-punch tool (0.7–0.9mm diameter), individual follicular units are extracted one at a time from the donor zone. This leaves tiny circular marks that heal invisibly within days.
Graft Preparation
Extracted grafts are sorted, counted, and kept in a specialized preservation solution to maximize viability. Our team prepares 2,800–4,500 grafts per session.
Recipient Site Creation
Our medical team creates tiny incisions in the recipient area at precise angles and depths — this step determines the naturalness and density of the final result.
Graft Implantation
Each follicular unit is carefully placed into the recipient sites, following the natural growth direction. This meticulous process ensures a result that is completely undetectable.
Recovery & Growth
Patients return home the same day. Transplanted hairs shed within 2–4 weeks (normal), then regrow permanently. Visible results appear at 4–6 months; full density at 12–18 months.
Recovery Timeline
What to Expect After Your Procedure
Immediate Post-Op
Mild swelling and redness is normal. Tiny scabs form around each graft. Sleep elevated. Most patients return to desk work on day 2–3.
Healing Phase
Scabs fall off naturally. Avoid strenuous exercise. The transplanted area looks clean. Donor area heals rapidly — tiny dots become invisible.
Shedding Phase
Transplanted hairs shed — this is completely normal and expected. The follicle root remains intact underground and begins its growth cycle.
Early Growth
New hair begins emerging from the transplanted follicles. Hair is initially fine and thin — it thickens over the coming months.
Significant Growth
Approximately 70–80% of final density is visible. Hair texture normalizes. Most patients are thrilled with their progress at this stage.
Full Results
Complete density and natural texture achieved. The final result is permanent, natural-looking hair that requires no special maintenance.
Myths vs. Facts
Common FUE Misconceptions
"FUE is painful"
Fact: The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients report feeling only mild pressure — not pain. Many watch movies or nap during the procedure.
"Results look unnatural"
Fact: Modern FUE, when performed by a skilled medical team, produces results that are completely indistinguishable from natural hair. The key is proper angle, depth, and density placement.
"You need to shave your head"
Fact: While a short trim of the donor area is required, most of your hair remains at normal length. Many patients return to work within days without anyone noticing.
"FUE results don't last"
Fact: Transplanted follicles are taken from the permanent donor zone — they are genetically programmed to grow for life. FUE results are truly permanent.
"Only men can get FUE"
Fact: FUE is highly effective for women experiencing hair loss, thinning, or hairline recession. ReGrow Medical treats both men and women with excellent results.
"Recovery takes weeks"
Fact: Most patients return to desk work within 2–3 days. Physical activity is restricted for 2 weeks. The scalp heals rapidly with our post-care protocol.
