Free Hair Transplant Consultation: What Is Included?

Yes—free hair transplant consultations are available, including at ReGrow Medical. The important question is what the appointment includes: an introductory conversation, a preliminary photo assessment, or a clinical evaluation. A free consultation does not automatically include diagnostic tests, a final surgical plan or treatment.
“Free” tells you the price of an appointment. It does not tell you who you will meet, how your hair loss will be assessed, or what happens if you decide not to proceed.
This guide helps you clarify those details before booking. For a deeper explanation of the medical assessment itself, see our hair transplant consultation guide.

What does a free hair transplant consultation include?
There is no single package shared by every clinic. Ask for the scope of the appointment, not just its advertised price.
For example, the first contact might be a conversation about your goals and scheduling. Another appointment might include a clinician reviewing your history, examining your scalp and discussing treatment options. Both can be described as a consultation, but they do not answer the same questions.
A fee is not, by itself, a measure of quality. A paid consultation is not automatically better, and a free one is not automatically a sales pitch. What matters is whether the clinic accurately explains the appointment and gives you a clear path to appropriate medical assessment.
A patient coordinator and a clinician have different roles
A coordinator can help explain the practice, organize photographs, discuss scheduling and clarify administrative costs. That can be a useful first step. It should not be confused with a diagnosis or a physician's decision that surgery is appropriate.
Before your appointment, ask: “Who will I meet, what is their role, and when will the physician responsible for my treatment assess me?”
A clinical consultation should address your hair-loss history, goals, relevant health conditions and previous procedures—not only the number of grafts you might buy. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes these as key consultation topics, along with the proposed procedure, risks and costs.
You do not need to arrive knowing whether you want FUE. The assessment should help establish whether surgery, a nonsurgical approach, further evaluation or waiting is the appropriate next step.
Five questions that clarify what “free” covers
Ask these before the appointment—and again before agreeing to anything that costs money.
1. Is this entire appointment free?
Confirm whether the offer covers only an introductory call or also the planned clinician visit. Ask about any separate assessment fee, cancellation fee or charge for a missed appointment. If payment details are requested, find out what you are authorizing.
2. Could tests or a separate medical visit cost extra?
A free consultation does not necessarily include laboratory work, a scalp biopsy or an outside specialist visit. These are not routine requirements for everyone. The American Academy of Dermatology explains that additional testing depends on the suspected cause of hair loss.
If testing is recommended, ask why it is needed, who provides it and how to confirm the charge before proceeding. A recommendation for further evaluation can be a responsible outcome, not evidence that the consultation failed.
3. Is the quoted amount an estimate or a confirmed procedure price?
A range based on photographs is different from a written quote based on an examination and an agreed treatment area. Ask what the number assumes and which findings could change it.
“About 2,500 grafts” does not, on its own, establish the final cost, the areas being treated or the expected result. Ask how the price would change if the recommended plan changes. For the factors behind procedure pricing, read our FUE hair transplant cost guide.
4. Which services are included—and which are optional?
Ask the clinic to separate the procedure and its included care from optional products or additional treatments. Do not assume medication, laboratory fees, PRP, extra sessions or every follow-up visit is included just because the consultation is free.
If an add-on is proposed, ask what it is intended to do, whether it is necessary for your plan and what it costs separately. A package label is less useful than an itemized explanation.
5. What happens if I pay a deposit and later do not proceed?
Before paying, request the deposit, cancellation, rescheduling and refund terms in writing. Ask what happens if the later clinical assessment changes the plan or finds that surgery is unsuitable.
A consultation, a reservation and consent to surgery are separate decisions. Do not let a same-day offer replace time to understand the recommendation. The Royal College of Surgeons advises against feeling rushed by limited-time cosmetic-surgery offers.
What should a useful written quote explain?
A quote should make the proposed financial commitment understandable. Use this checklist to identify missing information; it is not a statement of ReGrow's package inclusions.
| Look for | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Treatment scope | Which areas and procedure are proposed? Is the graft figure a range or an agreed plan? |
| Total procedure price | What is the total—not only a per-graft figure or monthly payment? |
| Included care | Which appointments, medications, supplies and follow-up services are covered? |
| Exclusions and options | What could be billed separately, and what can you decline? |
| Payment and changes | What is due now, when is the balance due, and what happens if the plan or date changes? |
A written price is not a guarantee of a particular cosmetic result. The medical recommendation and the payment agreement answer different questions.
If you want to explore payment plans, compare the financing terms separately from the procedure quote. Our hair transplant financing guide explains the details to review.
Can a free online consultation give you a final plan?
A virtual consultation can help you explain your goals, review history and discuss possible next steps without traveling. A photo review may also support a preliminary graft or price estimate.
It has limits. Photographs and video may not show scalp condition or hair density clearly enough for a definitive plan. The ISHRS virtual-consultation guidelines emphasize those limitations and recommend in-person confirmation of diagnoses and surgical plans before proceeding with care.
Ask what remains provisional, when the in-person examination will happen, and whether any payment is refundable if that examination changes the recommendation. If you are traveling, resolve these points before making nonrefundable arrangements.
A useful consultation may end without a surgery date
The goal is an appropriate next step—not a booking at any cost. Transplant candidacy depends on factors including healthy donor hair and whether the proposed recipient area can support growth. Some younger patients may be advised to wait or consider medication, according to the American Academy of Dermatology's transplant guidance.
You should leave knowing what has been established, what still needs evaluation and who will answer your next questions. If a final quote cannot yet be given, ask what information is missing and when it can be reviewed.

How to prepare without overcomplicating it
- Write down your main concern: the hairline, crown, overall thinning or a previous result.
- Bring useful history: when changes began, prior procedures, current medications and supplements, and relevant health conditions.
- Keep older photographs handy: they can help you explain changes over time.
- Bring your cost questions: ask for written terms rather than relying on memory.
For a virtual visit, follow the clinic's photography instructions. Clear views of the front, top, crown, sides and back are more useful than a single selfie. Ask how to share photos and medical information securely; do not upload sensitive records to a general contact form.
You do not need to choose a procedure, stop medication or shave your head just to request a consultation. Follow the clinic's specific preparation instructions, and do not change prescribed treatment without clinical advice.
What your complimentary ReGrow consultation includes
All ReGrow Medical consultations are complimentary, whether in person or online. The consultation is conducted by the ReGrow Medical team and includes an examination, a personalized treatment plan and a quote presented together.
If you would like to explore financing, the team can provide financing options at the same time. Financing is separate from the complimentary consultation; eligibility, approval and repayment terms depend on the financing provider.
For an online consultation, the examination is limited to what can be assessed remotely. A treatment plan or quote may need confirmation after an in-person assessment. The team can explain what is preliminary and what further evaluation, if any, is needed before treatment.
There is no obligation to book a procedure. Confirm appointment availability and ask the team about any specialized testing or outside referrals recommended beyond the consultation.
ReGrow's California locations include Los Angeles, Sherman Oaks, West Hollywood, Huntington Park, Bakersfield and Orange County in Irvine. Check the contact and location information and confirm the appointment details before traveling.
Request your free consultation or call (877) 573-4769. A request is not a confirmed appointment; the team will follow up to arrange the next step.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all hair transplant consultations free?
No. Fees and appointment formats vary by practice. Ask whether the introductory conversation, clinical assessment and any separate testing are included. All ReGrow Medical consultations are complimentary.
Does “free consultation” mean I have to book surgery?
No. ReGrow's initial consultation is no-obligation. If you later choose to pay a deposit or reserve a procedure, review those separate terms before committing.
Will I meet the surgeon at my first appointment?
ReGrow consultations are conducted by the ReGrow Medical team. If you want to meet a specific physician, ask when scheduling. An introductory coordinator conversation is different from a medical assessment; clarify who is responsible for the clinical recommendation.
Can I get a free hair transplant consultation online?
Yes. ReGrow's online consultations are complimentary, as are its in-person consultations. Ask the team to confirm availability and the format. Remote assessment has limits, so a plan may need confirmation through an in-person examination before treatment.
How long does a consultation take?
There is no universal appointment length. Ask how much time is reserved and whether the visit includes a clinician's examination or only an initial discussion. A more complex history may require additional assessment.
Will I receive an exact price at the consultation?
At ReGrow, the team provides a treatment plan and quote together during the consultation. Ask whether anything remains preliminary, especially after a remote assessment, and what could change the proposed plan or price.
The best outcome is clarity
A useful free consultation helps you understand the next step, who is responsible for the medical recommendation and what any future commitment would cost. You should not have to guess where the free appointment ends and paid care begins.
